Partner Charles J. Risch joined Lawrence Kamin in 1986 and has since built an impressive litigation practice, representing broker-dealers, investment advisors and other financial services professionals in lawsuits and regulatory matters, these and other business clients in hiring and contract disputes and consumer product manufacturers in products liability actions.
Charlie believes that strong teamwork and preparation provide the surest path to successful litigation outcomes and takes pride in preparing his client’s employees and outside experts as witnesses and integrating them into a trial team capable of presenting a compelling defense. Charlie has achieved consistent success defending financial services businesses and professionals in arbitrations, class actions, and administrative proceedings involving allegations of fraud, and/or violations of the securities or commodities laws. As National Coordinating and Trial Counsel for a major manufacturer of juvenile products, Charlie supervises and handles its product liability claims nationwide and has won jury trials throughout the country, including in such difficult defense jurisdictions as Southern Alabama and the Rio Grande Valley.
As much as he enjoys trying cases, Charlie appreciates that clients usually prefer to avoid litigation. To this end, a significant part of Charlie’s practice consists of counseling clients on how to manage their litigation and regulatory risk in order to reduce the chance of being sued. This includes counseling firms with respect to supervisory and compliance issues and individuals with respect to their contractual obligations, particularly with respect to restrictive covenants, and under state laws relating to the protection of trade secrets and proprietary information. He also works with manufacturing clients to design and implement quality assurance policies and procedures to minimize exposure to product liability and regulatory actions. When litigation cannot be avoided, Charlie recognizes that settlements often provide more efficient resolutions of cases for clients and is an avid proponent of mediation as a tool for obtaining favorable outcomes in appropriate cases.
When not in the office, Charlie enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing
a variety of outdoor activities, including golf, fishing, and hunting.
